Christmas in July

Version 1: Start Your Christmas Shopping

Contents:
  • Landing/Sales Page
  • 3 Offer Emails
Instructions:
  • There are 2 versions of the Christmas in July campaign. This version promotes early Christmas shopping with a great discount. This would work well for anyone who sells custom products or who has a high price-point product and can offer a 6 month payment plan.
  • This campaign uses the word “Christmas”. If you are afraid of offending people in your database, you can change the word to “holidays” but you may need to edit the copy a little bit to sound right.
  • This campaign gives a discount on any product or service. If you would rather give a discount on a particular service or product, you’ll need to change the verbiage slightly.
  • Maybe this is obvious, but if you are a service based business, you need to be able to fulfill on the services you sell AFTER Christmas. So don’t sell anything that you won’t want to fulfill on 5 - 8 months from now. And don’t sell any services that may go up in price between now and Christmas.
  • We suggest you send out this campaign that third week of July. That way you steer clear of 4th of July promos and it will make more sense to make the “deadline” for your offer the last day of July. (Only a 10 day time frame instead of a month long timeframe.)

Email 1: Offer

Subject Line: Two reasons to start Christmas shopping
Send: Immediately

Hi ~Contact.FirstName~,

If you’re anything like me, you love Christmas! And you hate it. You love being with family and finding the perfect gift for everyone on your list. You hate figuring out what that “perfect gift” looks like.

This year, I’m going to suggest you start your Christmas shopping early. And here’s why...because if your shopping gets done early, you get to enjoy the holiday. And because...this month only, we’re offering a special discount on any of our [SERVICES OR PRODUCTS].

{Note: If it makes sense, include a paragraph about why you’re running a promotion in July. This could include:

  • You make custom gifts and making that gift now means the person isn’t risking it not being ready if they order around Christmas time
  • You have a handful of really great products that will soon be discontinued
  • Your gift needs to be “booked” in advance - like a cruise
  • Your products are big ticket items that you’re willing to offer a payment plan on}

Now, am I going to get backlash from people saying it’s way too early to start thinking about Christmas? Absolutely! But they won’t be criticizing anyone when your loved ones smile at you and you KNOW you got it right this year.

If nothing else, go check out our special offer. You might find that rather than waiting for Christmas, you’d like to treat yourself to a little Christmas in July present.

Our promotion will end [DATE IT ENDS], so be sure to check it out soon.

Pro Tip:

If you choose to add that additional paragraph in the middle of the email, it might look like this:

Why would we offer you a discount in July? Well, it’s selfish really. As a custom jeweler, it takes some time to create your gift. And you get to offer feedback during the creation process. Near Thanksgiving, things in my shop get busy. And I don’t have as much time work directly with you as I would like. Plus, if you wait until December, it’s not likely you’ll even get your gift before Christmas.

Email 2: Reminder Email

Subject Line: Have you started Christmas shopping?
Send: Right between email 1 and email 3 (based on your offer deadline)

Hi ~Contact.FirstName~,

Don’t forget, it’s time to get your Christmas shopping started by taking advantage of our special discount offer!

(And if you didn’t get the last email I sent you and you think I’m completely nuts, let me quickly recap: [REASON FOR OFFER])

My mother once told me that if you find the perfect gift for someone - you should buy it, right then. And if I followed her advice, I would never find myself, still searching, days before Christmas for something that could pass as being thoughtful. So here’s my advice to you...go check the discounted offer we’re running. Then, head over to our website. If you don’t find anything that “speaks” to you - no big deal. But if you do find the perfect gift for someone who will be on your Christmas list, then you get a nice discount when you buy.

What could be “merrier” than that?

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. The best way to reach me is [BEST CONTACT INFO].

By the way, the offer ends [DATE IT ENDS], so you need to go check it out now.

Pro Tip:

If you don’t have a specific “Reason for offer” (as highlighted in the notes of email 1, then just say something like:

“...let me quickly recap: we want you to enjoy ALL the holidays, from Halloween to Christmas, so we’re running a special promo to give you a head’s start on your shopping. It’s our way of helping you eliminate stress this year.”

Email 3: Final Reminder Email

Subject Line: 2 days of Christmas shopping left
Send: 2 days before promo ends

Hi ~Contact.FirstName~,

Whew! Did that subject line stress you out? “Two days of Christmas shopping left.” Always gets me! But that’s usually because I don’t do my Christmas shopping until December.

This year, as you know, I’ve invited you to minimize your holiday stress and win huge points with your family and friends by getting a head start on your shopping.

And to help you out (as you know from my last 2 emails), we’re offering you a [PERCENT]% discount on any of our [PRODUCTS OR SERVICES].

But time is running out. This offer will only last for another 2 days. (Don’t let that stress you, though. If you decide not to do any shopping right now, you’ve still got 5 months.)

Happy Holidays...and be sure to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you might have.
